If the IT medium-size businesses won't succeed to convince mainly the conservative members of the parliament of the harmfullness of the directive for Europe, the EU parliament will not have the power to stop the rolling train in the second reading. The EU countries will be forced to transfer the directive to national law.

In short term this will not have catastrophic effects, in middle term the new laws will lead to another monopolisation of the software market. Each software company has to live with the constant fear to be sued for patent infringements, they don't even are aware of.

Especially developers, chief executive officers and shareholders will move inside a gray zone with every step and every decision they make, so their freedom of action will be limited. Many of them won't be willingly to accept this new "professional risk" and will discontinue their work. Software will be more expensive and the variety will be limited.
