I am certain that we infringe numerous patents - inevitable since most software patents are for techniques that are obvious to any competent programmer. At the same time, even if we wanted to, we have neither the time nor the resources to check. Besides, software patents are illegal in Europe - as anyone who can read the law can tell. This apparently does not include the European Patent Office, nor any European patent lawyers.
Software patents have the potential to bring the industry to a complete standstill. One can only hope that Europe will see software patents for what they are - a way for big companies to squash small ones at will.
